HALF AND HALF FROSTING

1 cup sugar
1/2 cup water
1/4 tsp cream of tartar
1/8 tsp salt
2 egg whites
1 tsp vanilla
1 square chocolate unsweetened

1. combine sugar, water, cream of tartar and salt in saucepan, bring to boil, stirring constantly.
2. cover saucepan and boil syrup 2 minutes
3. beat egg whites until stiff; gradually add syrup while beating constantly
4. continue to beat until frosting is stiff enough to hold shape; add vanilla
5. spread half the frosting on one half the cake; add chocolate, melted, to remaining frosting and spread on other half of cake
