2 pounds butternut or buttercup squash
1/2 cup packed brown sugar
1/4 cup margarine or butter, melted
1 tablespoon flour
1 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon ground mace
2 baking apples, cored and cut into 1/2-inch slices
Cut each squash into halves; remove seeds and fibers. Pare squash. Cut into 1/2-inch slices.
Mix brown sugar, margarine, flour, salt and mace. Arrange squash in ungreased rectangular baking dish, 12 x 7-1/2 x 2 inches; top with apple slices. Sprinkle brown sugar mixture over top. Cover and bake in 350 degree oven until squash is tender. 50 to 60 minutes.

Microwave Directions: Prepare squash as directed above. Microwave margarine uncovered in 2-cup microwavable measure on high (100%) until melted, 30 to 45 seconds. Stir in brown sugar. flour, salt and mace. Arrange squash in rectangular microwavable dish, 12 x 7-1/2 x 2 or 1O x 6 x l-1/2 inches; top with apple slices. Spoon brown sugar mixture over top. Cover tightly and microwave on high (100%) 6 minutes; rotate dish 1/2 turn. Microwave until squash is crisp-tender. 6 to 9 minutes longer. Let stand covered 5 minutes.
