3 cups (1-1/2 pkgs., 11.5 ounces each) Hershey’s milk chocolate chips
1 can (14 ounces) sweetened condensed milk (not evaporated milk)
Dash salt
1-1/2 teaspoons vanilla extract
½ to 1 cup chopped nuts (optional)
1. Line 8 or 9 inch square pan with waxed paper
2. Place chocolate chips, sweetened condensed milk and salt in medium microwave safe bowl. Microwave at HIGH (100%) 1 minute, stir. If necessary, microwave additional 15 seconds at a time, stirring after each heating, until chips are melted and mixture is smooth. Stir in vanilla and nuts, if desired. Spread evenly in prepared pan.
3. Refrigerate 2 hours or until firm. Turn fudge onto cutting board; peel off paper and cut into squares. Store covered in refrigerator. About two pounds.
Variations: semi-sweet festive fudge: proceed as above using 3 cups (1-12 pkgs., 12 oz each) Hershey’s semi sweet chocolate chips
Conventional Method: melt chocolate chips with sweetened condensed milk and salt in heavy saucepan over low heat. Remove from heat; stir in vanilla and nuts, if desired. Spread evenly in prepared pan.
