Makes 8 servings.
1 recipe Vegetable Soup (USE ANY VEGETABLE SOUP RECIPE)
1-pound, 12 oz. canned Italian-style tomatoes in thick puree
1/2 lb. ground beef
1/2 lb. ground pork
1 egg
1/2 cup Italian style bread crumbs
Salt to taste
'Prepare soup as in master recipe, but add tomatoes with their juices when green beans, potatoes, cauliflower and broccoli are added. Chop tomatoes in pot (use large wooden spoon). Combine meats, egg, bread crumbs and some salt; mix ingredients thoroughly. Make small balls about 1 inch in diameter, about 30 balls. Drop meatballs into pot after tomatoes are cut up. Cover pan partially; cook 15 minutes. Add salt and freshly ground pepper to taste. Serve hot.
